Word processing involves using a computer to create, edit, and print documents. Word processing programs are the most common computer software. Most word processors contain options to insert, delete, cut, copy, and move text. Users can adjust the page size, margins, columns, and other document characteristics. Most also have spelling checkers and the ability to position images and in some cases sound and video files. In addition to saving the files as text, they can also be saved as web pages.

Microsoft Word. Word is the most popular word processing software package. Others include Word Perfect and Appleworks. Most word processors allow users to save in a number of file formats, so it's easy to trade word processing documents.
