Core Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee the operation of the Carver Teacher Education Center activities, services, facilities, equipment and materials;
  • Oversee the operation of the Instructional Computer Laboratories (on the third floor of Snyder Memorial in addition to those in Carver Center; and
  • Design faculty development activities for integrating the use of technology in teaching/learning settings.
  • Develop a vision of the future related to the integration of emerging technologies into the College programs.
  • Coordinate the operation of the Instructional Computer Laboratories with departmental representatives from each six departments.
  • Develop a model media and technology center for implementation in the new College of Education building that will represent a merging of all existing media and instructional computing facilities, as well as instructional laboratories for disciplines such as science and mathematics, exercise science and recreation therapy.
  • Provide direction for a comprehensive program of technical support for computers and distance education related operations.

  • Maintain proper linkage with the Deans Office and department/faculty.
  • Disseminate information to the administration and faculty regarding center activities.
  • Provide timely and affective assistance to all Center clients.
  • Respond effectively as problems arise regarding equipment scheduling and instruction.

  • Establish a vision of the future related the integration of technology into teacher education.
  • Work together with the deans of the college on strategic planning in order to guarantee the integration of the Center into the future of the College.
  • Review the management plans and operational services of the Centers with the College Technology Advisory Board.
  • Prepare and manage the final approved budget.
  • Establish a comprehensive learning laboratory environment where students and faculty may design, develop, produce, evaluate, and apply educational technology to the teaching/learning process.
  • Provide necessary supplies, equipment, and consultation services to support students and faculty in the operation and implementation of the programs, including research initiatives.
  • Provide faculty and students with previewing and auditioning facilities with current innovative educational practices and technology.
  • Evaluate and secure emerging technologies of instruction that can enhance the teaching/learning process.
  • Assist the instructional staff in designing and producing materials required to specific local instructional needs.
  • Provide technical support for educational technology, program development and educational computing.
  • Conduct regular maintenance, of diagnosing malfunctions, repair setup all equipment and computers including installation of internal and external hard drives, servers, memory upgrades, networking video conferencing and setup of advanced multimedia instructional laboratories, etc.,
  • Organize space to provide individual learning facilities, permitting students and faculty to engage not only in the more traditional independent learning activities (e.g., reading, viewing and evaluating media, and practice equipment operation) but also to explore innovative alternative instructional approaches.
  • Manage and maintain all Center services and activities.
  • Train and supervise all Center support staff.
  • Manage and operationally review all computers and equipment in the Instructional Computer Laboratories.
  • Work together with the faculty in the department of Curriculum Instruction to develop faculty development and facility management plan for Distance Education.

1999-2000 Responsible for establishing and installation a Power Macintosh G3 instructional computer laboratories in the Carver Teacher Education Center. All Power Macintosh computers were networked by 100BaseT Ethernet configurations with Mac OS X Server.

1998-1999 Responsible for establishing and installation a PC instructional computer laboratories in Snyder Memorial third floor. All PC computers were networked by 10BaseT Ethernet configurations.

1995-1996 Responsible for developing and establishing a Distance Education facility for College of Education.

1995-1996 Responsible for installation and networking of some of the most powerful and advanced innovative technology at the University of Toledo. The technology includes 50 Power Macintosh 7100/80 computers located in the Instructional Computer Lab, the Production (Multimedia) Lab and open area workstations. All Power Macs were networked by 10BaseT Ethernet configurations. Education faculty and students will have access to resources and information available on the Internet by utilizing the Netscape to access World Wide Web (WWW). In addition, our new technology allows users to access the Ohio Link, UT CMS - VAX - UNIX - UTMost - Eudora, etc. The Multimedia Laboratory will allow our students to explore the technology of multimedia product development and practice the basic skills needed in order to become a multimedia producer and user.

Teclehaimanot, B. During the 1995-96 academic year, I offered five Multimedia “Familiarization” workshops for the faculty of the College of Education and Allied Professions.

Teclehaimanot, B. During the 1995-96 academic year, four-distance learning workshops were conducted for College faculty members. The workshops were provided by the Carver Teacher Education Center and the Norstan Communications consultant. The focus of the workshops was to provide faculty with hands-on experience in utilizing distance education. Distance learning provides a set of learning tools that meet the needs of both learners and instructors. Approximately 17 College faculty members attended the workshop.

Teclehaimanot, B. During the 1994-95 academic year, presented and provided 14 day/evening workshops for students and faculty in the College of Education and Allied Professions. The Workshops covered the following topics: Introduction to the VAX Computer System, using VMS and accessing the Internet, E-mail, Gopher, Netscape (WWW), Fetch and FTP, and multimedia in education.

Utouch the future (UT3) is a 5 year project designed to foster collaboration that increases the capacity of The University of Toledo to recruit and prepare teachers in science and math, increase the number of candidates who major in these high need areas, improve the quality of the initial teacher preparation programs to meet high-quality standards, and improve the quality of teaching of science and math with the aim if increasing student achievement. The Colleges of Education and Arts Sciences (A&S) partnered with Toledo Public and Catholic Schools and 6 campus center.

Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) Implementation Grant

Teacher’s Info-Port to Technology (TIPT) is the result of the collaboration of the Toledo Public schools and the College of Education, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the University College at the University of Toledo. There are three major goals of TIPT: 1) To revise all University of Toledo College of Education undergraduate curriculum to indicate technology-rich teaching methods that meet Ohio, NCATE, and therefore ISTE standards; 2) To develop systems to assure the graduates of the University of Toledo College of Education will use technology in their classrooms; and 3) To develop systems to assure faculty in the UT College of Education and Arts & Science will use technology in the classroom as both a model for students and as methods of instruction.

    To tackle the ISTE standards for school administrators (TSSA) in conjunction with EDLEA and ISLLC standards. To process and develop a matrix that higher education faculty in educational administration can use to infuse technology into their curriculum and instruction.

    With the approval of Provost, William Free and Dean Murphy, I have been working with the Ohio Board of Regents PT3 catalyst grant, the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio SchoolNet Commission. CatalystOhio proposes that the Educational Technology Congress will serve as statewide policy guidance group for its implementation.
